Mother’s Day Charity Concert 2018

On 11 May, the KWSH Mother’s Day Charity Concert 2018 was held at the newly renovated Singapore Conference Hall as part of our fundraising efforts to better the lives of our residents and the elderly in the community. KWSH was honoured to have Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Finance, grace the event as our guest of honour and Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Communications and Information, in attendance as the special guest.

Organised in collaboration with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), the concert treated the 700 over guests, who included donors, sponsors and other supporters of KWSH, to a wonderful performance led by conductor, Mr Quek Ling Kiong. As we approached Mother’s Day weekend, the orchestra and homegrown singer-songwriter Ling Kai paid tribute to all mothers with heartwarming titles such as Mama, How are U? and My Mother’s Umbrella.

The crowd was further mesmerised when SCO performed an Anita Mui medley featuring memorable classics from the late Cantopop superstar such as亲密爱人 and 似水流年 but the biggest applause of the night belonged to Ms Sim Ann when the special guest took the stage and wowed the crowd with her rendition of Moonlight in the City, the local hit originally performed by Singaporean songbird Mavis Hee.

The climax carried on to the finale item when Ms Sim, together with KWSH’s Chairman Patrick Lee and members of the concert’s organising committee, led the audience in a mass singing of the evergreen Cantonese song Love and Passion, rounding up the concert on a high and leaving everyone in an exuberant spirit.

Thanks to the dedicated displays from Ms Sim and all the other performers,  the concert raised a total amount of $2,380,000. These funds will certainly go a long way in serving the needy elderly as we continue to build up our financial resources. Kudos to the organising committee and staff for pulling this concert off, and KWSH would of course also like to extend its sincere thanks to all the kind donors as well as the following sponsors:
