Project CARE 2017 by Hong Wen School

On 5 October 2017, the 1,380-strong student population of Hong Wen School, accompanied by school staff and parent volunteers, came out in full force and visited our elderly residents at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH).

The activity was part of the school’s Project CARE (Children Actively Relating well with the Elderly), which has involved students and teachers visiting KWSH since 2006. Our elderly residents have always looked forward to this event every year as it gives them the opportunity to interact and spend time with these youthful energetic pupils.

This year, it was a little special for all participants as the pupils and our residents celebrated this occasion at our new 12-storey nursing home building for the very first time. The pupils toured the new building and surprised our residents with goodie bags that they had specially prepared for them.

There was also a drum performance by pupils from Chinese Drums CCA (Co-Curricular Activity) group at the Multi-Purpose Hall for about 30 residents accompanied by 60 Primary Four pupils. At the Senior Care Centre, there were 30 Primary Two pupils who brought joy to our clients by distributing goodie bags to them.

It was yet another meaningful experience for the pupils who participated in this year’s activity. The pupils have enjoyed themselves while the far-reaching project has also taught them important values such as compassion and appreciation. “This is a very wonderful experience. I am coming here for the third time and it is a meaningful experience,” said Ong Min Er, a Primary Five student who had visited the residents at our old facilities in previous years. “The new building will be very good for the residents as there are new equipment and facilities to benefit them.”
