Serangoon TCM Centre: 
On 4 July 2026, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital marked an important milestone with the installation of our 92nd Board of Directors. Witnessed by Minister for Digital Development and Information, Mrs Josephine Teo, who is also our Member of Parliament for Jalan Besar GRC, the ceremony brought together Board members past and present, management and staff in celebration of KWSH’s enduring mission of serving seniors and the community.Â
More than a ceremonial handover, the occasion reflected the continuity of a legacy that has guided KWSH for over a century: providing compassionate, quality care to those who need it most.
Celebrating a Meaningful Chapter of LeadershipÂ
As KWSH welcomed a new Board, the occasion also provided an opportunity to recognise the contributions of retiring Chairman Mr Tang Kin Fei, who led the organisation through a significant period of growth and transformation over the past three years.Â
Under his stewardship, KWSH launched our 10-year strategic plan, charting a roadmap for growth, innovation and sustainability through to 2033. Central to that plan is an expansion of our nursing home capacity from 1,200 to more than 2,000 beds, delivered through two upcoming homes at Miltonia Close and Ganges Avenue. The Miltonia development in Yishun will be our first facility outside Central Singapore, extending our reach to communities and families we have not served before. Â
Mr Tang’s term also saw the establishment of KWSH’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable and responsible healthcare. In 2025, KWSH further strengthened our focus on capability building through the launch of KWSH Academy, which supports training, research and innovation across the community care sector.Â
These achievements were made possible through the dedication of the retiring Board members alongside Mr Tang, and we extend our appreciation to each of them. They remain part of the Kwong Wai Shiu family, with Mr Tang continuing as Honorary Chairman and his fellow retirees as Honorary Board members.
Welcoming Mr Ng Siew Quan as Chairman
Taking on the mantle of Chairman is Mr Ng Siew Quan, a familiar face within the KWSH family. Having served on the Board since 2009 and most recently as Deputy Chairman, Mr Ng brings with him a deep understanding of the organisation, its heritage and its aspirations for the future.Â
Beyond KWSH, Mr Ng has built an extensive track record in both the corporate and community sectors. He is widely involved in Singapore’s Chinese community and currently serves, among other roles, as Chairman of the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre and Chairman of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. His longstanding commitment to community building and cultural stewardship aligns closely with KWSH’s role in caring for seniors and supporting the community, while honouring the heritage and values that have guided the organisation since 1910.Â
Speaking at the installation ceremony, Mr Ng paid tribute to both Mr Tang Kin Fei, as well as Honorary Chairman and Advisor Mr Patrick Lee (KWSH Chairman from 2011 to 2023), for their years of leadership and for helping position KWSH for its next phase of growth. At the same time, he highlighted the importance of innovation as KWSH prepares for the future.Â
Building the Future of EldercareÂ
As Singapore’s population continues to age, the demand for quality eldercare services is expected to grow significantly in the years ahead. Under the leadership of the 92nd Board, KWSH aims to strengthen its role in meeting these evolving needs.Â
One of the key projects on the horizon is the upcoming Miltonia nursing home. Mr Ng shared his vision of developing the facility into a smart nursing home, leveraging technology and innovative care models to enhance the quality of care and improve residents’ quality of life.Â
At the same time, KWSH’s future nursing home at Ganges Avenue presents an opportunity to deepen our community impact. Beyond providing residential care, the facility is envisioned as a community anchor that supports seniors living in the surrounding neighbourhoods, helping them age well while remaining connected to their communities.Â
These initiatives reflect KWSH’s belief that eldercare extends beyond our facilities. By embracing innovation and strengthening community partnerships, we can continue to create meaningful and holistic support systems for seniors and their families.Â
Carrying the Mission ForwardÂ
Leadership changes. The mission does not.Â
Throughout the ceremony, there was a strong sense of continuity, gratitude and optimism. While leadership may change over time, KWSH’s mission remains unchanged: to serve with compassion, professionalism and care.Â
As Mr Ng shared during the event, “Together with management, staff, donors, volunteers and partners, the 92nd Board of Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital can and will strengthen our role in improving lives and serving communities.”Â
As Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital builds on more than a century of service to continue to make a difference in the lives of seniors for generations to come, we warmly welcome the 92nd Board of Directors and look forward to embarking on this new chapter together.Â
