Unprecedented Support for Community Care Day

KWSH held our annual health carnival, the Community Care Day, on 23 March as seniors residing in the nearby vicinities were invited for the complimentary health screenings. This year, we had 10 healthcare and eldercare organisations on board, a record number at the annual event, to conduct health screenings and offer health tips to the participants alongside Kwong Wai Shiu’s very own TCM physicians and active ageing team. Our nursing home residents also participated in the carnival where the elderly participants were treated to energetic on-stage performances as well as a morning of fun games and yummy treats.

We were delighted to have Ms Denise Phua, our Mayor for Central Singapore District and MP for Jalan Besar GRC, join the 800 elderly participants at the health carnival. Our affable guest of honour interacted with the seniors at the activities booths and readily posed for photographs with the participants. In her address to the crowd, Ms Phua praised KWSH for our service to the community, especially the Kallang-Whampoa region, and also expressed her thanks on behalf of her other parliamentary colleagues serving the area. We are heartened by Ms Phua’s show of support and KWSH will continue to strive to do more for the sick and needy!

In conjunction with this year’s event, KWSH also launched a new fundraising initiative. Tree seedlings were cultivated from a historic tree located in our iconic pavilion garden – a Flame of the Forest tree planted by Mr Lee Kuan Yew in 1963 – and these were put up for adoption by donors who donated $388 to the Hospital. The tree served as the perfect backdrop as CEO Dr Mok Ying Jang presented the seedling to each donor with a specially designed certificate of adoption.

Kwong Wai Shiu would like to thank the donors for supporting our cause. Our gratitude also goes to all the other donors, sponsors and partners who contributed to the health booths, food and games carnival stalls, as well as the goodie bag items for our seniors. A big shoutout to the various schools and community groups for putting together the wonderful stage performances and not forgetting our volunteers who sacrificed their weekend morning to help out at the event.

We hope everyone had a great Community Care Day 2024. See you next year!
