Introducing hyüu: A TCM Relief Range from KWSH

Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH) is introducing hyüu, a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) house brand developed from formulations used in our clinical practice. The hyüu ointment, commonly applied by our TCM physicians in patient care, is now made available for broader community use.

Building on our TCM heritage since 1910, this marks a meaningful step in extending aspects of our care beyond the clinical setting, allowing individuals to incorporate familiar TCM applications into their daily routines.

Everyday Relief, Rooted in TCM Practice

The hyüu ointment provides a gentle warming sensation and is commonly used to ease muscle tension, shoulder stiffness and general physical discomforts.

Mr Kok Zirui, Associate Senior TCM Physician at KWSH, shared, “It provides a soothing warmth and is commonly used alongside cupping therapy to help relieve shoulder and back discomfort, which are frequently seen among working adults.”

Complementing the hyüu ointment is the hyüu patch, a ready-to-use plaster designed for direct application to specific areas of discomfort. It offers a convenient option for individuals seeking targeted support during daily activities.

The name hyüu (pronounced like “heal”) is inspired by the Chinese character “愈”, reflecting the concept of recovery and care.

A Heritage of Giving Behind the Formula

The hyüu ointment is made possible through a generous contribution of its formula by Mr Koh Seow Leng. Mr Koh had inherited the family formula from his father, Mr Koh Teck Siang, who used to work at a Chinese medicinal hall.

The formulation has been used within KWSH’s TCM clinics as part of patient care. Its availability to the public reflects a shared intention to benefit a wider community.

Mr Koh Seow Leng shared, “I am grateful for the opportunity to share the ointment formula with Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital. I hope that it will benefit more patients in need and support the Hospital’s efforts in caring for the community.”
