Our very first Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital Symposium took place on 22 August 2025, marking an exciting milestone for the organisation. Titled “Onward! Innovation Enabling the Future of Community Healthcare”, the symposium brought together more than 250 participants — a vibrant mix of healthcare professionals, industry partners, and thought leaders — for a lively exchange of ideas, inspiration, and possibilities.
A Heartfelt Opening and an Inspiring Guest
We were honoured to have Ms Tin Pei Ling, Member of Parliament, as our Guest-of-Honour. Drawing from her ground experience with elderly residents in MacPherson, Ms Tin spoke passionately about the real challenges faced by seniors and how people-centred innovations can go a long way in improving lives. Her heartfelt insights resonated strongly with the audience, reminding us why our work in community healthcare matters so deeply.
The symposium opened with a warm address by Mr Ng Siew Quan, Deputy Chairman of KWSH, who reflected on the organisation’s proud legacy of more than a century of service. He also unveiled the KWSH Academy, our new centre of excellence in aged care dedicated to innovation, research, and training. The Academy will serve as a collaborative space to co-create with industry partners, advance knowledge through rigorous research, and share best practices through training. This initiative reflects our commitment to continually evolve to meet the changing needs of the community we serve.
Delivering the keynote was Prof Eugene Soh, Deputy Group CEO of NHG Health (Population Health). Captivating the crowd with his humour and wit, he presented a lighthearted sharing on the changing landscape of Singapore’s healthcare. He spoke about the transformation process as we build a population health system for Singapore and highlighted the challenge of manpower keeping pace with rising healthcare demand, especially as Singapore is set to become a “super-aged” society in 2026, where 21% of the population will be over 65 years old.
Innovation, AI and the Future of Care
The symposium was brimming with the thought-provoking sharing from our speakers, including established healthcare practitioners from both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine. Their presentations collectively demonstrated that while big data and AI present exciting opportunities to elevate healthcare practices, making healthcare smarter and more efficient need not always involve high-cost or complex innovation. Often, the most impactful solutions are practical, people-centred, and easy-to-adopt digital tools designed for the community.
Bringing Innovation to Life
Our speaker line-up also included industry partners who illustrated how innovative tools and equipment have already been adopted to improve care delivery. Innovation wasn’t just spoken about — it was showcased too! Our booth partners brought healthcare technologies and solutions right into the symposium hall, giving participants a first-hand look at how ideas are being translated into practical, impactful applications.
This was a vivid reminder that innovation comes alive best when we join forces with bold, creative partners who share our vision for better care.
A Meaningful Close and a Look Ahead
Our CEO, Dr Mok Ying Jang, concluded the symposium with closing remarks that truly captured its spirit. He reminded us that innovation and partnerships are not optional. They are essential. Breakthroughs, he noted, don’t happen in silos but when we unite expertise and work across disciplines, always keeping our patients at the heart of every decision.
As participants mingled, exchanged ideas, and started conversations that will surely spark new collaborations, one thing became clear: this was more than just a symposium. It was a launchpad for the future of community healthcare.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for this historic milestone. Together, we are building a healthcare ecosystem that is not just ready for tomorrow, but shaping it today.
We look forward to continuing this journey and to welcoming everyone again at the next symposium. In the meantime, enjoy the highlights from our inaugural symposium this year!
