Celebrating Community Care Week 2025: A Heartfelt Carnival of Connection, Wellness, and Sustainability

What a week it’s been at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital! Our beloved annual Community Care Day blossomed into a vibrant, week-long celebration this year, and the energy on our Serangoon Road campus was simply infectious. The festivities brought together seniors, caregivers, families, community partners for a heartfelt celebration of care, connection and collaboration.

A Whole Week of Heartfelt Activities

This year, we did not just mark a day – we dedicated a whole week, from 1 to 5 April, to caring for our community in every sense of the word. Leading to the main event, we ran a series of engaging health talks, interactive demonstrations and nutritious food samplings – many of which were generously supported by our community partners.

The main event on Saturday, 5 April, was a true carnival, complete with games, food stalls, partner booths offering health and safety tips, health screenings including free Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultations by KWSH’s physicians, and lively performances. We were thrilled to welcome close to 800 participants, including our cherished nursing home residents and seniors from the neighbourhood. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and joy and we were honoured by the presence of Ms Rahayu Mahzam, Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information & Ministry of Health.

Introducing KWSH’s Own TCM Herbal Remedies

A highlight that had everyone buzzing was the launch of three new KWSH-concocted TCM herbal remedies, developed by our own physicians to meet modern wellness needs! For 115 years, TCM has been at the heart of our care, and this year, our expert team of physicians unveiled three herbal blends designed to boost overall well-being. One remedy, the Vitality Tea specially crafted for those who burn the midnight oil (we see you, students and busy professionals!), aims to restore energy, improve vision, and nourish the liver – perfect for anyone juggling a packed schedule.

Consultant Physician, Dr Liauw Siew Lian, who is our Clinical Head of TCM Services, shared how these new formulas are a response to the needs of our modern community. Besides the tea, the other two remedies are soup packs aimed at regulating gut health and promoting heart nourishment. And yes, they are now available for purchase at our TCM Centre.

Upcycling for Good: Giving Old Linens New Life

The magic did not stop at wellness. This year, we also shone a spotlight on sustainability and social empowerment through our upcycling initiative. In collaboration with social enterprises Alfya Atelier and Mori Official, these materials were transformed into beautiful, practical tote bags and pouches. These aren’t just eco-friendly accessories – they are handmade by community groups supported by our partners, including single mothers, underprivileged individuals, and persons with special needs.

As a token of appreciation, donors who contributed $128 or $288 received one of these unique upcycled bags – a stylish reminder that sustainability and social impact can go hand in hand.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

Community Care Week 2025 was more than just an event – it was a celebration of connection, compassion, and creativity. From the laughter echoing through our carnival to the thoughtful launch of new TCM remedies and the meaningful upcycling efforts, every moment reflected KWSH’s enduring commitment to holistic, inclusive care.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and helped make this week so special. And if you haven’t yet, do visit our TCM Centre to try our new herbal remedies.
