N95 Mask Fitter Respiratory Workshop (Train-The-Trainer)

Course Overview

Course Objectives

According to SS 548:2022, stakeholders are required to appoint Fit Test Administrators for their respective organizations to help manage the respirator program. One of the key responsibilities is to ensure that all tight-fitting respirators undergo a Qualitative Fit Test (QLFT).

The success of the programme requires full support from management. A well-trained Administrator can effectively communicate the importance of the programme and garner the necessary support.

A course on Qualitative Fit Testing (QLFT) for Fit Test Administrators is important as outlined in SS 548:2022 for several key reasons:

1. Knowledge of Airborne Contaminants: The Fit Test Administrator must be knowledgeable about the types and effects of airborne contaminants in the workplace. This understanding is crucial for selecting the appropriate respiratory protection.

2. Appropriate Controls and Respiratory Protection: The Administrator should be well-versed in the necessary controls and types of respiratory protection required. Proper training ensures they can make informed decisions about the best protective measures.

3. Effective Implementation of the Programme: The Administrator is responsible for the overall implementation of the respiratory protection programme. Proper training ensures they have the skills and knowledge to manage the programme effectively.

4. Compliance with SS 548:2022: Ensuring that the Fit Test Administrator is properly trained helps the organization comply with the requirements of SS 548:2022, thereby maintaining regulatory compliance and ensuring employee safety.

In summary, a course on QLFT for Fit Test Administrators is essential to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage the respiratory protection programme effectively, ensuring the safety and health of employees and compliance with SS 548:2022.

Skills and competencies that will be addressed:

Bloom’s Taxonomy Model is used to classify educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity.
This is a basic training expected of Fit Test Administrators with regards to QLFT requirements and other related responsibilities. As such, the framework is structured as follows:

Bloom’s Taxonomy Framework for Fit Test Administrators Training:

Remembering (Knowledge) – Recall basic concepts and definitions related to QLFT and respirator programs.
For example: Memorize the steps involved in conducting a QLFT.

Understanding (Comprehension) – Explain the importance of QLFT and its role in ensuring respirator effectiveness.
For example: Describe the reasons for conducting a QLFT and the consequences of improper fit.

Applying (Application) – Use knowledge to perform QLFT procedures correctly.
For example: Conduct a QLFT on a colleague following the standard protocol.

Analyzing (Analysis) – Break down the QLFT process to identify potential issues and areas for improvement.
For example: Evaluate the results of a QLFT and determine if the respirator fits properly.

Evaluating (Evaluation) – Assess the effectiveness of the QLFT and the overall respirator program.
For example: Review and critique a QLFT session to ensure compliance with SS 548:2022.

Creating (Synthesis) – Develop new strategies or procedures to enhance the QLFT process and respirator program.
For example: Design a training module for new Fit Test Administrators that includes best practices for QLFT.

This framework ensures that Fit Test Administrators are not only knowledgeable about QLFT requirements but also capable of applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating improvements in their respirator programs.
