Volunteer Appreciation Dinner 2016

Kudos to all volunteers for their priceless contributions to Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH)! It is the steadfast commitment and dedication of the volunteers that has helped make us who we are today.

The Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held on 8 October 2016 to express our sincere appreciation to our regular pool of dedicated helpers.

More than 200 volunteers, including the Board of Directors, attended the event. KWSH Chairman Mr Patrick Lee, PBM, commended the volunteers for their selfless contributions to the hospital. He also presented tokens of appreciation to long-serving volunteers for their milestones of service to the hospital.

Mr Lee said, “My heart is full of gratitude each time I meet these volunteers who have tirelessly contributed to our community. We deeply appreciate their exemplary work in helping to serve our elderly. Their admirable and inspiring spirit will always be a part of our legacy, as we all join hands to serve our community the next 100 years.”

The contributions of our volunteers play a vital role in the success of many of our fundraising events and patient activities at KWSH. For example, their gift of time for the regular coffee/karaoke and Bingo sessions has enriched the lives of KWSH residents. The volunteer artists who help in crafting lanterns for the yearly Mid-Autumn Festival have also contributed to the hospital’s fundraising efforts. For many decades, all their invaluable contributions have benefited many needy elderly.

Mr Charlie Goh, who has volunteered with KWSH for more than three years, shared, “KWSH is our choice platform for volunteering as there are many lessons that we can learn from helping the elderly, such as the importance of cherishing our loved ones, and the opportunity to better understand the socioemotional needs of elderly besides being able to bond together as a team.”

As KWSH undergoes redevelopment to become the largest single-site nursing home in 2017, the hospital will keep striving to do better for both its residents and the community. Besides the continuous support of our regular volunteers, we also hope to see more new volunteers come forward to join us in our journey of serving the needy elderly.
