Hong Wen Students Share Children’s Day Joy with KWSH Elderly

On 3 October 2019, close to 1,300 students from Hong Wen School, the primary school’s entire student population, joined us at KWSH for the Project CARE (Children Actively Relating well with the Elderly) initiative. A joint collaboration with Hong Wen School to inculcate in the students the value of compassion by sharing their joy with the elderly during Children’s Day, this meaningful event promotes inter-generation bonding and has been an annual feature for KWSH since 2006.

Accompanied by school staff and parent volunteers, the students were invited to go on an experiential learning journey, during which they toured the KWSH premises and visited the wards, Senior Care Centre, our iconic pavilion garden as well as the KWSH Heritage Gallery.

The elderly were delighted at the opportunity to chat and spend time with the students who went to the wards and Senior Care Centre to interact with our residents and clients. Besides bringing along goodie bags which the students had specially prepared for our seniors, members from the school’s dance group also treated the elderly residents in the multi-purpose hall to their wonderful Chinese cultural dance and ballet displays. Buoyed by the enthusiasm from our elderly, Principal Raymond Poon even led a few teachers and some of the dancers for an impromptu act and performed two songs for the residents.

Project CARE 2019 also saw the introduction of our Trees of Blessings, where students were invited to hang their well wishes on the trees. The trees will subsequently be displayed at the wards to liven up the atmosphere for our residents.

KWSH is glad to have been part of this meaningful Children’s Day celebration for the students and would like to thank Hong Wen School for this impactful partnership. We look forward to our future collaborations with the school.
