Project CARE 2015 by Hong Wen School
To inculcate the school value of compassion and to raise the awareness of community services for the elderly, Hong Wen School organizes their Project CARE (Children Actively Relating well with the Elderly) in conjunction with their Children’s Day Celebrations annually.
On 8th October this year, the students from Hong Wen School visited the elderly at Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH), bringing along 300 goodie bags of daily necessities.
With their visit, the students brightened the day for the residents. The students distributed the goodie bags, prepared by themselves and parent volunteers, to the various wards. They also decorated the ‘Well-wishes’ message board with their heartfelt wishes penned for the residents. Some students served breakfast to the residents, gathered in the event hall, while a group of performers entertained them with magnificent Wushu and Chinese Dance performances.
Javier Yung, a Primary 4 student at Hong Wen School, said “The event is meaningful and memorable. The elderly has contributed so much to Singapore, hence we should do something for them. Our principal has told us that we should share our kindness with other people.”
At the end of the programme, Hong Wen School Principal Mr Poon Siow Leng encouraged the students to show their appreciation to the elderly by greeting them with words of thanks and ‘Good-bye’ before leaving the event hall.
KWSH would like to thank Hong Wen School for organising the Project CARE programme and we look forward to more collaborations with them.
