National Day Observance Ceremony (2014)

On 8 August 2014, KWSH’s administration staff and some residents gathered at the event hall for a National Day observance ceremony. This is the time of the year that all Singaporeans would reflect on and feel proud of the nation’s achievements.

Besides following the tradition of singing the national anthem and reciting the Singapore Pledge, the staff and residents together watched a very entertaining performance put up by four African teenage boys from Amitofo Care Centre (a centre that cares for orphans of Africa within the humanitarian and educational umbrella). The extremely talented boys, who have been in Singapore for an inter-school exchange programme on Mandarin since early July 2014, delighted everyone with a few popular songs in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien. A hearty lunch, provided by a sponsor, was also served to the residents.

Everyone left the National Day celebration with a sense of appreciation and pride that we live in a harmonious and progressive country. The ‘Singapore Spirit’ is not just about success but also a sense of unity. At KWSH, we will all embrace the same kind of spirit as we continue to strive on our journey, of serving the sick and needy community, as one united and forward-looking team.
