Pavilion Lantern and Lantern Wall Shine as KWSH Celebrates Mid-Autumn

On 7 September 2019, KWSH’s board of directors and staff, along with our donors, volunteers as well as community partners, gathered at the Hospital’s ground as we celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival with our elderly residents. Besides witnessing the tradition of releasing the Kong Ming lanterns and the singing performances put up by various groups of volunteers, the guests and elderly were also invited to make their wishes by setting sail the lotuses at the lotus pond.

The highlight of this “Light A Lantern, Warm A Heart” event was the light-up ceremony where the biggest lantern of the night, our iconic pavilion transformed into a mega lantern, was lit up by KWSH Chairman Patrick Lee. As the Pavilion Garden became aglow with the many lanterns, a gigantic 2-metre tall lantern wall also came into full view. Installed in front of the Hospital’s conserved building housing our Heritage Gallery, this lantern wall stretched out along the entire corridor measuring more than 30 metres, with more than a thousand lanterns used for the creation.

For almost three months, KWSH volunteers and residents had tirelessly hand-painted the lanterns that formed the lantern wall. KWSH’s partners, namely Fresenius Medical Care, HCA Hospice Care, Healthway Medical and Silver Generation Office, also came on board to lend their helping hands, reflecting our closely-knitted relationships and symbolising our commitment to work together to serve the community.  We are proud that all of us have now gone into the Singapore Book of Records for the Largest Lantern Wall in Singapore!

As everyone soaked in the festive mood, it was indeed an unforgettable night at KWSH, especially for the bed-bound residents who cherished the opportunity to participate in an outdoor celebration. KWSH would like to thank all our generous donors, volunteers and partners for the success of this event.
