KWSH Community Care Day 2023: Annual Event Returns After Four Years

On 18 March 2023, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH) opened its doors to the community for a fun-filled morning at our Serangoon Road premises. The event was especially meaningful for the Hospital, as it marked the first KWSH Community Care Day since the pandemic began. We were excited to welcome elderly from the community back to our annual community outreach event.  The event attracted close to 1,000 participants who included seniors from the community and our nursing home residents.

The Hospital had the privilege of welcoming President Halimah Yacob as our Guest-Of-Honour. During her visit, Mdm President toured our premises and was introduced to our rich heritage and initiatives. These included viewing of our KWSH Heritage Gallery and visiting the Senior Care Centre and an inpatient ward, which showcased the students’ training in our latest collaboration with NorthLight School on the ITE Skills Certificate in Community Care Support course.

At the carnival area, KWSH’s very own Active Ageing Team – staff from our Senior Care Centres and community care centres – led the crowd with an energetic exercise workout which saw guests and participants spontaneously joining in and moving along to the beats of the music. On this day, participants were treated to a wealth of activities, including complimentary health screenings and health awareness programmes offered by our healthcare partners Healthway Medical, Kallang Polyclinic (National Healthcare Group Polyclinics), Singapore General Hospital, Singapore Women’s Association and Tan Tock Seng Hospital & Central Health. KWSH’s Traditional Chinese Medicine physicians were also onsite to provide complimentary consultations for the participants. The important community partners were presented with tokens of appreciation at the event to recognise and thank them for their valuable support towards this meaningful cause.

To further promote healthier lifestyle amongst the elderly, the Active Ageing Team set up a booth to introduce the wide variety of active ageing activities available at our KWS Care centres, which are all conveniently located within their respective neighbourhoods. Other highlights of the day included the food and games at the carnival, as well as the entertaining performances put up by volunteers and interest groups from community organisations.

Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital’s Community Care Day 2023 would not have been possible without the generous support from all our sponsors, donors and community partners. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for their continuous support, and also to the community members for joining us this joyous morning. The happy faces of the participants reinforced the event’s success and we look forward to hosting this meaningful event again next year!
